Beyond the Horizon

Final Script

First day

Immersant begins in their lifeless room (Greyscale). Immersant is able to interact with different objects that give insight into the protagonist’s life

  • Picture of him and his friend - Approaching causes protagonist to remember the sounds and voices of him and his friend during the incident (Purpose is to inform that protagonist’s friend died)

  • Deflated swim tube - Approaching causes heavy breathing (Purpose is to show fear of drowning)

  • Mirror - Interacting with mirror shows picture of him not looking great

  • Document - Indicates that the weather suddenly got stormy (Establishing details in case other objects were not clear enough)

Picture is positioned in a way that it’s most likely the first object the player interacts with

After interacting with every object, the protagonist gets a phone call from their mother who gives encouraging words, and asks the protagonist to take care of the friend’s dog.

Second day

Immersant is in their living room with their friend’s dog. Immersant interacts with the dog through several means

  • Feeding

  • Playing

  • Petting

After interacting with every option, the protagonist goes back to bed.

Third day

Protagonist and dog are by a waterfall, and the dog slips in. All the sounds from the first day begin playing again, and heartbeat. Protagonist has to jump into the river to save the dog. We will use a different locomotion for swimming. When the immersant gets close to saving the dog, the screen will fade to white and stay white for a few seconds so that the player wonders if they saved the dog or not. Dog will be scrambling in place.

Fourth day

Immersant begins in an autumn forest, where the dog is leading the protagonist somewhere. It turns out to be a beautiful view. The view is from the picture on the first day. Beautiful music starts playing, and the protagonist and dog’s relationship reaches its conclusion.
